A Track Record of Supporting Business

I am passionate about putting Southampton on the map both nationally and internationally and was responsible for commissioning the city’s Masterplan which will bring £3bn of investment and 20,000 new jobs in the next 15 years. One of my priorities is to bring business and development to Southampton. I have encouraged many multinationals to relocate to the area bringing prosperity and job and Southampton status as a world leading Port is pivotal to our prosperity. I have unashamedly stood up for the port against unfair competition from Liverpool.

Our infrastructure is vital: I led successful bids for Sustainable Transport Funding to improve bus real-time timetables as well as initiatives which brought improvements to Southampton Central Train Station.

I am very proud of the  Estates Regeneration programme, which I pioneered, and  work closely with developers to bring apprenticeships and construction jobs for local people.
While the big picture is essential I am never afraid to be parochial where Southampton and its residents are concerned. I am particularly proud that  I campaigned hard for the small business rate relief and the new Employment Allowance which gives savings of up to £2000 a year.
