It is very encouraging to see that Southampton continues to be at the forefront of the fight against coronavirus.

A new coronavirus vaccine could shortly undergo clinical trials in Southampton, in part thanks to the Government providing £1.9m to support a partnership with University Hospital Southampton. This could take place at the National Institute for Health Research Clinical Research Facility in Southampton as early as this autumn.

The project is using ground breaking techniques using 3D computer modelling of viruses to create a vaccine which could not just be used to prevent COVID-19, but also related coronaviruses which could emerge in the future. We should be proud that once again our city is at the forefront of medical research which is of global importance.
