It is good news that Southampton has been awarded almost £300,000 of funding by the Government to help improve air quality within the city.
Southampton City Council has been awarded the funding which will allow it to work in partnership with other local councils to more carefully monitor air quality and to help make improvements.
Nothing could be more important than the quality of the air which we all breathe. Tackling all sources of air pollution will help make Southampton a better and healthier place to live. Progress is already being made in this area, with the Port developing shore power connections to help reduce the requirement for visiting ships to run their engines in port. This further funding will build on the progress already being made in cutting pollution in the city.
