I couldn’t agree more. It is time we had a proper national memorial to those who designed, built, maintained and flew the Spitfire.
The National Spitfire Monument Project seeks to deliver just that and I am proud to be campaigning on their behalf.

In normal times this would seem an appropriate monument, to the enterprise, generosity and courage that the country and city showed. In the current atmosphere of division and xenophobia it seems a bit tainted. It may look backward looking and nationalistic.
I totally disagree. I think it’s good to remember the past and to honour those who sacrificed there lives for the betterment of what was then a Great Britain. Also to celebrate all who designed and built this Great British icon. What’s more, this monument clearly celebrates more than just our nation in its design….
Sadly I think our nations pride and identity is slowly being rinsed by the hands of political correctness, which in itself is partly political incorrect.
