Southampton has many high rise tower blocks and after the Shirley Towers tragedy in 2010 the coroner recommended retro fitting of sprinklers in the hope of making another tragedy less likely. However, in addition to sprinklers there are other important safety features and yesterday I asked the Secretary of State to give assurances that these have been fully inspected to ensure the highest levels of safety are maintained in the city’s tower blocks.
