I recently had the great opportunity to visit the Sand Heron which is an aggregates dredger owned by Cemex that operates in the Solent. It was docked in Southampton Docks for repair and maintenance works.
The tour was led by the Master of the Sand Heron, Georgina Carlo-Paat.
Georgina is the first woman Master in UK Marine Aggregate Dredging.
Georgina is also responsible for uncovering the occasional WWII shell lurking in Southampton water. I am grateful to her for a very informative visit.
