Tonight I walked through the historic voting lobby of the House of Commons to vote to ‘Confer power on the Prime Minister to notify, under Article 50(2) of the Treaty on European Union, the United Kingdom’s intention to withdraw from the EU.’

I campaigned for over 20 years for a referendum on our relationship with the EU and on 23rd June 2016 I joined 60% of my constituents in voting to leave.

Tonight, a majority of Parliamentarians voted to bring back control to our Parliament.

The important thing looking forward is to negotiate a new arrangement with the remaining members of the EU to get the best deal possible in our United Kingdom’s national interest.
