Many of you have contacted me to say more should be done to prevent nuisance phone calls and improve the accessibility of digital TV. The body that regulates telecommunication, Ofcom, has launched a consultation to review the effectiveness of current consumer protection.
The proposals Ofcom have suggested include:
– A requirement for all providers to have clear, effective policies and procedures for identifying vulnerable customers – such as people with learning or communication difficulties or those suffering physical or mental illness or bereavement
– Requiring providers to identify and block nuisance phone calls
– Requiring providers of broadband and pay-TV – to offer disabled users access to priority fault repair, third party bill management and accessible bills
– Speeding up the complaints procedure with regular updates.
– Increasing the transparency of price and comparable tariffs for products
If you would like to have your say on the consultation you can do so until the 14 March 2017.
