I have been contacted by many constituents who are concerned about this weekend’s (Saturday 2nd July) demonstration by the South Coast Resistance, a far-right nationalist group, passing through Southampton. Yesterday, I contacted Michael Lane the Police and Crime Commissioner for Hampshire and he has informed me that an appropriate and proportionate response will be in place to ensure the demonstration goes ahead with minimal disruption. I have also been in contact with the Chief Constable. Whilst I would prefer that they didnt come to our city, we do live in a country where freedom of speech is important and valued.
