In less than two weeks, we will be asked to make the most important political decision in a generation. The referendum on our membership of the European Union is even more important than a general election, because this question won’t be asked again if we get it wrong.
For that reason I think it is important that, as your MP, I share with you how I will vote and what brought me to my decision. In order to do that I will be holding two public meetings and I hope you will be able to come along to one of them.
Some of the recent debates have not been particularly well mannered. People have genuine opinions on both sides and it is important that, where possible, we discuss them in a courteous way and avoid personal attacks. This issue is beyond the traditional party political knockabout.
I will begin the meetings by sharing some thoughts of why I have taken my position and then I will open up the discussion to those who would like to share their views and opinions. There is no pressure to take part, you are very welcome to come along and observe.
The two public meetings will take place on:
Thursday 16th June
18.30 to 20.00
St Mark’s Institute
44 Victoria Road
Woolston
Southampton
SO19 9DY
Saturday 18th June
18.00 to 20.00
The United Reformed Church
Bitterne Precinct
Bitterne
Southampton
SO18 5EF
I do hope you will feel able to attend.
