Last week I met with the Honeypot Campaign For Children Who Care. Honeypot is a children’s charity campaigning to recognise the needs of children aged between 5 and 12 who care for a family member.
It can be hard enough for adults to care for elderly parents in the later stages of life with diminished mental or physical capabilities, as I know from my own experience. So just imagine what it must be like for children, who may only be 5, 6 or 7 years of age, to have to become carers. Many lose out on friendships, holidays or just being a child. I am pleased the Government has guaranteed all young carers an assessment of their needs regardless of who they care for. I will always champion and support this good cause.
