Last year I started campaigning on behalf of residents to persuade the council to introduce 20mph limits in roads where local residents would like them. Having received a refusal from the council, despite the success of 20mph limits in other cities, I decided to present a petition to the House of Commons calling on the council to introduce 20mph limits.
If you haven’t already taken part in the petition and you would like to you can print the attached form and return it to me free of charge. The House of Commons procedures will only accept petitions in hard copy (paper) with a signature and a valid address in the constituency.
You can download the petition here and send it to me at the FREEPOST address. If you cannot print a copy please email me or my office and we will happily send you one.
Good evening Royston, re the article relating to 20mph speed limits.
Sunvale Close is in need of such a restriction, vehicles daily ,believe it or not, travel along the stretch of road to and from the direction of South East Road well in excess of 30 mph, and the majority of the drivers live within the close. I contacted the highways dept months ago , their response , contact the police .
Regards

This is why we are calling on the government to change the default limit for “restricted” roads to 20mph. Councils will still be able to make exceptions where safe and appropriate to do so. See http://www.20splenty.org/transitioning_to_national_20
